Why Costa Rica

1. The people: Costaricans are very loving people who have strong family relationships. Ticos, as they are affectionately known, take care of their own and take pride in being Costarican.

2. Tax advantages: Property taxes are normally under $100 and income taxes range from 7% to 15%.

3. The climate: Costa Rica is warm all year round, but it is neither too hot nor too humid. Temperatures range from 65 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. National Geographic declared Atenas, located 45 minutes from San José, to have the best climate in the world.

4. Cost of living: Imagine a beer and grilled Mahi Mahi for $4.00, breakfast for $2.00 and oranges for 3 cents a piece! Monthly cell phone bill at $16 per month and the electricity rate is $1.89 per kilowatt hour.

5. World Class Medical Service: The United Nations Costa Rica was ranked 35th in the world for their healthcare system. Curiously, the United States ranked 36th and Canada 30th. The cost for medical and plastic surgery care ranges from 1/10 to 1/3 of that of the U.S and Canada... for more on the Health Care System in Costa Rica see http://www.cocori.com/library/life/med1.htm

6. Stable political and economic environment with the oldest democracy in Latin America. Lowest risk rating in Latin America.

7. No limitation on foreign control of corporations and ownership of property.

8. Reasonable travel Costs: Within the country of Costa Rica you can travel a considerable distance by 1st class bus for the equivalent of $5-6.00. Also, you can stay at a clean room at the beach for $$20-25.00 per night. Your travel options to other Central America countries are also much less than in Canada. On the other hand, luxury is everywhere. From 5 Star to mid-range where you can find lodging anywhere from $50 per night to $300.

9. Resident Privileges: If you become a resident you enjoy all of the privileges of a Costa Rica citizen with the exception of the right to vote and the right to run for office. That includes full medical and dental coverage in the social security health care system for approximately $25 per month.

10. It's just the most beautiful and peaceful place on earth.
